With over 25 yrs experience teaching drumming for healing and wellness, Christine Stevens, MSW, MT-BC has created a global rhythm sangha featuring world class teachers and practices for maintaining a juicy drumming practice to bring joy, happiness & creativity into your life.
Features of the course:
Sangha is a Sanskrit word for a community of practitioners in a shared tradition. Within the sacred lineage of drumming, we want to create a world-wide community of support, sharing, and teaching to continue our rhythmic path – in service to global awakening.
Using zoom.us, we will hold monthly teachings followed by breakout rooms to get to know other people in the sangha. We will also offer open practicum times monthly where students can gather and meet each other, to practice the world rhythms.
The course features world rhythms from drum masters, detailed hand-outs, private Facebook group – optional, and all video and audio recordings with permanent access and download capability.

GLOBAL RHYTHM SANGHA 2021 FACULTY
Arthur Hull is considered the “mid-wife” of the modern day drum circle. A REMO artist, Arthur Hull travels the world inspiring community-building through the metaphor of music. He is the founder of Village Music Circles whose mission is to make rhythm accessible to everyone. He has taught thousands of facilitators in 34 countries around the world, including his famous 6-day Playshop in Hawaii, and 10-day mentor Programs. His books include Drum Circle Spirit: Facilitating Human Potential Through Rhythm & Drum Circle Facilitation.
Marcus Santos is a native of Bahia, Brazil. A contemporary percussionist and educator, he commits his life to the study, teaching and performance of Afro-Brazilian music and heritage. He is the artist director of the Grooversity global drumming network project that includes twenty four drumming groups from the US, Canada, Germany, Mexico and France. Marcus has performed with the Gypsy Kings, TEDx-Brazil, and “One World Band” MTV. He is the author of the DVD ‘Modern Approach to Pandeiro’
Eliana Gilad uses the voice and frame drum as a tool for healing and personal development. She is the founder of Voices of Eden, working in the USA, Palestine and Israel. Having lived through three wars and social unrest in the Middle East, she developed medical protocols for newborns with healing sound. The author and creator of “Find Your True Voice”, she has presented with the likes of Deepak Chopra, Marianne Williamson, & Bobby McFerrin, and her own TED talks.
Karim Nagi is a Native born Egyptian immigrant to the USA, and a crossover artist uniting the Arab tradition with the global contemporary world. He has released fourteen CDs and authored instructional videos for Arab percussive instruments and dance styles. Karim has taught at the New England Conservatory of Music for 5 years and has presented at Harvard, MIT, Yale, Princeton, Stanford and his TEDx Talk “The Tambourine, My Partner is Diplomacy & Disruption”. His Arabiqa program has conducted over 400 school assemblies across America.
Prema Mayi is a native of Chile. She migrated to France with her family when she was ten. At a Bhakti yoga ashram in France, she studied the arts of vedic culture, such as drama, dance, kirtan, mantra meditation, and the philosophy of bhakti. She then studied in India under the guidance of her spiritual master, Srila Bhaktivedanta Narayan Maharaj. She now travels around the world with her sons, sharing kirtan as a transformational experience and connection to divine source.
Gino Gamboa was born in Lima, Peru and is the founder of the group “Armonia Criolla”. He is a master of percussion, especially teaching and building the Peruvian Cajon, an instrument created by enslaved Africans who were forbidden from playing the drums. He is the organizer of the global Cajon Festival at REMO and plays at Universal Studios with the Andean folk band Sajama. Combining his psychology background and musical knowledge, Gino takes his Cajon lessons to families’ homes to release stress and create new family dynamics.
Windwalker Dorn is a Grammy-nominated singer, flutist and drummer and two-time winner of Native American music awards. Windwalker was born of the Mi’maq, Cherokee and Lenape people, and raised learning medicinal herbs and techniques to heal the inner waters from her Mi’maq grandmother. She is the founder of MCW – a women’s traditional drum group, MultiCultural Women’s Drum. She has been a teacher for the San Diego Center for World Music, offering school assemblies on Native American music..
Fantuzzi famously appeared on the cover of TIME Magazine during the Woodstock Music Festival. His African-Caribbean roots meld into ecstatic, transformational, interactive performances in Fantuzzi Music. Based in Hawaii, his music is “Mystic Latin, Reggae, Afro-Funk” – infused with the energies and rhythms of Salsa, Merengue, African drums, and devotional Kirtan. CDs include Ease & Grace, Tribal Revival and Divine Inspiration. He most recently recorded an upcoming project in Cuba.
Krista Holland, a multifaceted teacher, frame drummer, and independent researcher, is the founder of the Sacred Drumming Academy. She learned the art of frame drumming along with ritual, myth, and ancient feminine drum history while apprenticing for 14 years under Layne Redmond. Krista has drummed privately for cancer patients in hospice, pregnant mothers at blessing ways, grieving parents, trance journeys, for children at bedtime, and other life ceremonies and rituals.
Pepe Dansa has lived, studied, and performed in South America, USA, Europe, Asia, Japan, Africa and Indonesia. He plays percussion, winds and strings from his collection of more than three hundred instruments from around the world. He is especially focused on Afro Latin drumming traditions, Japanese Zen Shakuhachi flute, and the science and practice of Sound Healing.
He resides in Europe where he performs & teaches internationally, and Prana Yoga College which he opened with Master Yoga Teacher Shakti Mai.
Sandra Ingerman, MA, is an award winning author of twelve books, including Soul Retrieval: Mending the Fragmented Self, Medicine for the Earth, Walking in Light, and The Book of Ceremony: Shamanic Wisdom for Invoking the Sacred in Everyday Life.
Sandra was chosen as one of the Top 10 Spiritual Leaders of 2013 by Spirituality and Health Magazine. Watkins Body Mind Spirit Magazine honored Sandra by including her on their 100 Most Spiritually Influential People of 2020. She was awarded the 2007 Peace Award from the Global Foundation for Integrative Medicine.
Sule Greg Wilson is our CULTURAL ADVISOR. Sule is the author of The Drummer’s Path (1992). From an early age, he became part of the premier African dance company and represented the U.S. at the Palace in Kumasi, Ghana. He has been on the vanguard of sharing authentic and spirited percussion to the world. Proficient in U.S., Celtic, Caribbean, and Mande music, Súle has also delved into Indian, Indonesian, and numerous African, Middle Eastern, and European traditions. He carries on the tradition via his Drumpath Rhythms and Become the Drum workshops, seminars, performances, and live and online tutorials.
Christine Stevens is the author of Music Medicine, The Healing Drum Kit and The Art and Heart of Drum Circles. The founder of UpBeat Drum Circles, she is a faculty member of The Shift Network and a consultant to REMO. Christine has developed training programs for Soul of Yoga in sound healing and led the first drum circle training in a war-zone in northern Iraq. Her online programs include Awaken Your Rhythm which has served hundreds of people from over 35 countries.
