Drumming for Emotional Release with Christine Stevens

After years of working in disaster and war zones, I created this video on how to use drumming for emotional release, what might be called “shadow drumming”. In part, it was my own response to the recent shooting in Vegas. As DCFs, we build community, create joy and harmony, but also we honor the shadow in ourselves and in our groups. This might be a tool to incorporate in a healing drum circle anytime the world is in shock or grief from global tragedies. What often follows this practice is more creative freedom and deep bonding, felt by the group’s connection to our common heart.

One tip – While “banging” out your feelings doesn’t really teach anything besides “hitting,” its important to change your vocabulary. Don’t say “hit” the drum. Say “play” the drum.
