A Meditation on Crisis, by Christine Stevens

A Meditation on Crisis

What a time to have an empathic heart

To feel the cost of global perspective

All the things that grew me

Cracked me open

Helped me know the oneness of humanity

Now bring me to compassion

All the ways music bonded me beyond enemies

In streets of Moscow singing We Shall Overcome

Playing drums with Iraqis

Singing Arabic songs with refugees

Though I pay a price, for all these things I am grateful

As shreds of heart are torn by shocking news

In calm-spoken commentators

Complaints turn into prayer

In a meditation on crisis

Finding tools learned on a path of love, peace and beauty

Work well in the shadow-time of fear

Hope is the priceless outcome

The gift Obama gave our nation

The audacity of hope that cannot be over-turned
